Techstars is a global ecosystem that empowers entrepreneurs to bring new technologies to market wherever they choose to live. With dozens of mentorship-driven accelerator programs and thousands of community programs worldwide, Techstars exists to support the world’s most promising entrepreneurs throughout their lifelong journey, from inspiration to IPO.
Techstars provides access to tens of thousands of community leaders, founders, mentors, investors, and corporate partners, allowing entrepreneurs to accelerate the pace of innovation and do more faster. Techstars supports every stage of the entrepreneurial journey – from early stage grassroots community development to more formal opportunities that provide education, experience, acceleration, funding, and beyond.
In June 2015, Techstars announced the acquisition of UP Global (the organization previously behind Startup Weekend, Startup Next, Startup Week and Startup Digest).
Techstars and UP Global have had a long-standing relationship dating back to 2007 when the idea for Startup Weekend was born out of the Techstars basement in Boulder, Colorado.
Startup Programs are run by volunteers helping their local startup communities. We might charge a ticket price to some events to cover our costs but we won’t try to make profits. Should there be some money left, it is invested back to the community.
Startup Weekend is a 54-hour event providing an immersive experience into entrepreneurship and innovative thinking. Participants are challenged to build functional startups during an intensive program centered on action, innovation, and education.
2015 was the year Startup Week truly went global, growing from 15 cities in the U.S. and Canada in 2014, to 41 cities in 12 countries on 6 continents. The momentum continues to build as more and more Community Leaders looks to make Startup Week their flagship entrepreneurial event in 2016.
Entering 2015, Startup Digest was already the nearly ubiquitous source of startup information in cities around the world. 2015 continued the expansion and also saw the rapid rise of Reading Lists, topically based digests curated by industry experts.
